Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters after Tuesday’s practice that Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg will be the quarterbacks to see playing time in the New York Jets’ preseason finale Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Geno Smith will not suit up (it was already expected that starter Ryan Fitzpatrick would also rest).
“We know what Geno is,” Bowles said as to why he would sit Smith.
This looks like it means that Smith won’t be cut this summer. Bowles has insisted all summer that Smith is QB2 on the depth chart, but below that, things may still be up in the air. The Jets won’t cut second-round pick Hackenberg, and it makes sense to give him more preseason snaps.
But New York may or may not keep Petty in the final round of cuts. If he starts on Thursday, he may not have many (or any) first-stringers around him, but he’ll have his biggest and most important chance to prove himself to the Jets nonetheless.
