Jets keep 4 quarterbacks on 53-man roster, part ways with Dee Milliner, Jace Amaro

The New York Jets have parred their team down to its official 53-man roster. Now, while changes will come throughout the season these are the guys the Jets believe are the 53 best players in their organization.

There were plenty of cutthroat battles throughout camp, specifically at wide receiver and linebacker. The Jets had tough decisions to make at both positions, and part of that was dictated by whether they kept four quarterbacks on the roster.

Bryce Petty was the man on the bubble throughout camp, and he has officially earned a spot on the roster. Petty tossed a pretty touchdown pass to Robby Anderson during the first quarter of Thursday night’s preseason finale and his body of work was apparently good enough to keep him around. The Jets will keep four quarterbacks, sacrificing depth at other positions. The Jets also didn’t feel comfortable letting Geno Smith go as their backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The other most notable decisions of the day came when the Jets parted ways with cornerback Dee Milliner and tight end Jace Amaro. Milliner, a former first-round pick, as been waived with an injury designation. That means he will be placed on injured reserve if he clears waivers. Amaro’s short career with the Jets is over after two disappointing seasons.

The Jets also placed right tackle Breno Giacomini on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss the first six weeks of the season.

Here’s a look at all of the Jets cuts.

  1. If we have to keep 6 QBs I would do it. What other position is sacrificed that wouldn’t be activated on game day anyways. Once we find a franchise QB. All else becomes much easier
