Former New York Jets head coach Herm Edwards hasn’t been on the sidelines since 2008, when he was ousted out of Kansas City following a 2-14 season with the Chiefs. But who says it’s too late for the 63-year-old ESPN analyst to get back into coaching.

Edwards is expected to be hired by Arizona State as its head coach, according to SunDevilScoop.com.

Edwards served as New York’s head coach from 2001-05. He posted a 39-41 overall record with three winning seasons, three playoff appearances and two postseason victories. Edwards is perhaps most known for his “You play to win the game,” rant from his Jets tenure.

Edwards lasted only three years with the Chiefs before taking a gig at ESPN in 2009.

Edwards, a former NFL cornerback, probably won’t be taking the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff. But he’s widely revered and could draw recruits to Tempe with his NFL ties. It will be interesting to see how he fits within the college football landscape.
